Lecture Rooms

This page describes the procedures necessary to utilize Anderson Lecture Rooms. For more information about Anderson Lecture Rooms, please contact the Anderson Information Systems staff (E-mail).

Training

Pit room equipment training is required for access to multimedia classrooms. If you would like to be trained please contact the Anderson IS staff (asmisstaff@mgt.unm.edu).

PC, VCR, and Projector

The following procedures describe the guidelines necessary to use the multimedia components of the classroom.

  • Turn the projector ON and lower the big screen
In rooms ASM 1016, 1017, 1064 and 1065 labeled switches are in the multimedia cabinets. In rooms GSM 127, 128, 230 and 232 covered switches are on the wall near the multimedia cabinets.
  • Turn the monitor and CPU ON
  • Type in the password
The pit room computer systems are for instructors only to use during class time. THE PASSWORD PROVIDED BY THE ANDERSON LAB MANAGER SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON!
  • Follow on-screen computer instructions to log in
  • Turn the VCR ON if necessary Use VIDEO and COMPUTER buttons on the InFocus remote to switch video and computer feeds.
  • Turn the lights OFF. In addition to the regular wall switches, Anderson pit rooms have a set of light switches in the multimedia cabinet. Having only the spot lights ON usually gives the best conditions (operate by sliding switches).

VCR and Projector

To correctly use the VCR and Projector, use the following procedures.

  • Turn the projector ON and lower the big screen
  • Turn the VCR ON
  • Put in the video tape and press PLAY button. If you do not see your video on the big screen, press the VIDEO button on the InFocus remote.

System Shutdown

To prolong the life of the components in the classroom, please use the following guidelines.

PUT THE PROJECTOR ON STANDBY FOR 3 MIN BEFORE TURNING OFF TO COOL DOWN THE PROJECTOR LIGHT BULB! Negligence in this operation will lead to imminent projector breakdown caused by an overheated light bulb. Projectors InFocus LP™750 (GSM 128, 230) can be shut down safely by pressing the POWER button once.

  • Press the POWER button on the CPU once to initiate AutoShutdown Service and turn the monitor OFF
  • Turn the VCR OFF
  • Turn the projector OFF after at least 3 min in standby mode and raise the big screen

Do not leave any part of the multimedia system ON after you finish using it!

Troubleshooting Guidelines

Use the following guidelines to troubleshoot problems with the classroom components.

Projector Problems

  • Projector is working, but there is no screen output.
Press the STANDBY button on the InFocus remote to take the projector off standby mode.
  • Blue big screen output when the computer turned ON.
The VCR was ON before the CPU; press COMPUTER button on the remote for the computer feed.
  • Projector is not working
The projector light bulb is possibly bad; please inform the Anderson Lab Manager.
  • InFocus remote is not working
    • Make sure you stay up front of the projector and point the remote emitter directly to the projector.
    • The projector has a substantial response time; please be patient if this is the case.
    • Make sure that there are no buttons stuck in the depressed position; it will drain the battery charge and block the remote.
    • If the remote is idle for more than 20 minutes, it deactivates to preserve battery life. To reactivate it, press the LIGHT button on the remote for 3 – 4 seconds until the remote buttons light up. The label on the remote reminds about this.
    • The remote can be used with or without RCA cable connection to projector; this cable has to be connected to both ends (remote and projector) or disconnected on both ends.
    • If neither of previous operations helps and you suspect dead batteries or remote malfunction, please inform the Anderson Lab Manager.

Computer Problems

  • Black screen when monitor and CPU are ON.
Projector must be turned ON before PC; check if the projector is ON.
  • Mouse is not operating
Check the computer cables and make sure the mouse cable is plugged into the mouse port on the back of the PC and re-start the computer.
  • Black screen with icons
    • Black screen after the message warnings about failure of network connection appears when something is wrong with the network connection. If this is the case, you can still use the computer locally, but won’t have access to the information on the server, including courses’ data files.
    • Check the computer cables and make sure the white or gray Ethernet cable (it looks like a big phone jack) is not loose either in the wall or the back of the CPU and re-start the computer.
    • If all the connections look good, please inform the Anderson IS staff.
  • Password incorrect
Make sure the key NumLock is ON (left indicator light on the keyboard) if you are using the number pad (right side of the keyboard). If this does not help, try again and use the main keyboard only.
  • Sound needs adjustments
Check the computer cables and make sure the thin black RCA cable is plugged into the video port (green jack SPK/LINE) on the back of the CPU. There are volume controls on the InFocus remote, InFocus projector itself, VCR remote and PC Start toolbar (lower right corner of the screen).

VCR Problems

  • VCR seems to be “dead”
Make sure the VCR power cord is plugged in.
